We were disappointed to learn of the recent demise of Universal Wealth Management who provided Inheritance Tax and Care Home Fee Planning advice. It seems the firm have collapsed leaving a number of clients with significant losses. We have every sympathy for the innocent members of the public who have lost money.
Partner in the Wills & Probate department at Churchers Solicitors, Chris Matthews, comments, “There are many similar firms still active who are not appropriately regulated. Often these firms are more expensive than regulated companies, the members of staff do not have the appropriate qualifications or supervision, and the advice is not backed by suitable insurance. I am always surprised clients are willing to pay more for this type of service.”
If you are considering Trusts or taking tax advice, we would like to highlight the importance of using a properly regulated company where you can be assured the advice you receive is backed with appropriate insurance and protection. You should be looking for firms who are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority or other approved body.
If you would like professional advice on putting in place a Will, Trust, Lasting Power of Attorney or need assistance with the administration of an estate, Christopher and the rest of the department would be happy to hear from you.
