Sixty Seconds with Hannah Jones

In our latest 60 second interview - where we meet the people behind the Churchers name - we are introduced to Hannah Jones from our Portsmouth Office.

Who am I? Hannah Jones, Partner and Higher Court Advocate

What do I do?
I head up the Criminal Department in our Portsmouth office.

What can I help you with?
I cover all areas of criminal law, from shop lifting to murder. As a Duty Solicitor, you never know what cases you are going to get. I represent clients in the Police Stations and conduct a wide variety of hearings in the Magistrates Court including trials. I also appear in the Crown Court for sentencing, breaches and other hearings.

What do I like most about my job? It would have to be the variety – every day is different. I also get to meet some very interesting people!

What are my hobbies? I have been a season ticket holder at Arsenal Football Club for over 25 years! I have also travelled to many away grounds to support Arsenal including in Italy, France and Copenhagen. I am also a keen skier having first started at 5 years old.

Why did you decide to train to be a solicitor? I studied 'Accountancy with Law' at University but found I was much more interested in the law. It was a natural step for me, having always been interested in Criminal Law.

If you didn’t decide to become a lawyer, what would you have done instead?
A professional footballer! Failing that an accountant...

Preparing for the Autumn sales - your consumer rights

As we prepare to descend on the shops to take advantage of the Autumn sales, Claire Bond, Legal Executive in the Civil Litigation team,  considers that it is worthwhile going armed with a little knowledge of our consumer rights. Claire says, “Studies have shown that almost half of the population do not know their consumer rights and almost a third of us lose money through not understanding what we are entitled to”.
